Overview

Meya Meya - agyptisches Essen stands out as an authentic portal to Egyptian flavors right in the heart of Berlin’s Greifswalder Straße. This intimate restaurant brings traditional Egyptian cuisine to life with a focus on genuine, home-cooked dishes that speak volumes about their cultural roots. The owners, who personally oversee the kitchen and service, infuse each meal with warmth and care, creating a welcoming atmosphere that feels like a true taste of Egypt.

The culinary highlight here is undoubtedly the Koshari, Egypt’s iconic street food. Meya Meya offers both the classic Koshari Teller, featuring the perfect harmony of rice, lentils, macaroni, crispy fried onions, and rich tomato sauce, and interesting variations like the Koshari Shawarma Plate or even the vegan-friendly Koshary Teller Vegan. These dishes capture the essence of Egyptian comfort food, boasting generous portions that satisfy both newcomers and seasoned fans of the cuisine.

For those seeking robust meat options, the restaurant’s Fleisch Teller selections such as the Shawarma and Kebdeh (roasted chicken liver prepared according to a cherished grandma’s recipe) are standout dishes. These are served with fresh, vibrant salads, creamy homemade hummus, and freshly baked flatbreads, making each meat platter a balanced and fulfilling experience. The Hawawshi, a grilled minced beef dish wrapped in bread following a traditional recipe, invites patrons to explore deeper layers of Egypt’s culinary heritage.

The menu also excels in its vegetarian offerings. Dishes like Ta’mya (Egyptian falafel made from fava beans) and the Meya Meya Spezialplatte provide a diverse and vibrant array of plant-based flavors. The salad and side selections, including tabbouleh and house-made halva, complement the robust main plates, adding fresh and sweet notes to the overall meal.

The setting at Meya Meya is casual and unpretentious—a true neighborhood gem where the focus remains on food quality and authenticity rather than fine dining frills. It attracts a varied crowd, from curious food lovers eager to sample Egyptian cuisine for the first time to locals and expats looking for a taste of home. Guests often praise the owners’ cheerful hospitality and attentive service, which enhance the relaxed dining experience.

Overall, Meya Meya delivers a genuine culinary journey through Egypt’s rich food traditions with dishes that are thoughtfully prepared and richly flavorful. Whether you come in for a hearty Shawarma sandwich with extra cheese, a filling Koshari platter, or a shared vegetarian feast, this spot offers a memorable taste of Egyptian hospitality and cuisine right in Berlin.

From an Egyptian living in Berlin, and after trying many Koshari plates all around Berlin, Meya Meya wins the best authentic Koshari taste... the owenrs of the place are very cheerful and welcoming and they run the place themselves, keeping the service at its best.

This restaurant is an absolute gem, the selection on the menu, the service, everything is just incredible. My absolute favorite choice would have to be the Koshary Plate with a double portion of Kebdeh although the walk 20 meters to the nearby tram stop afterwards is no small feat on such a full stomach. I highly highly recommend here if you haven't been already!

Casual dining spot with Egyptian cuisine. This is my first time trying Eyptian cuisine so I can't really say if it is authentic but overall it was delicious. The chef seemed to be an Egyptian! Really large portion size.

I ordered a Meya Meya - Flemish Teller on August 1212th, 2025. I chose chicken and beef. Salad and two delicious sauces of your choice. This was very delicious and will recommend you to try this out without hesitation. Add it to your must go list! If you use lieferando app, the price will be reduced. They give you a ticket in the restaurants that you can use to get the discount.

Delicious, indeed authentic, very clean place, friendly, welcoming and accommodating hosts. Taste felt homemade and authentic, but elevated and appropriate for restaurant. The portion size of Kusheri was great. The original Kusheri tasted wonderful, and the new Kusheri dish with the twist with shawarma on top was also just great.
